and what a fun weekend it was!!!

I am always sad to see this weekend come to an end. It is so much fun to have Thanksgiving, get up early to shop, decorate the house, take a nap...

by the way... this is a picture of Matt and Andrew (taken 5 minutes ago) - both of whom insisted they were not tired at all!

it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...

The stockings are hung and the tree is decorated... now all we need is Santa!

In following tradition, I got up SUPER early this morning to do a little shopping... then we DECORATED!!!! Every ornament that came out of the box - Matt would squeal "that's the most beautiful ordadent in the uniwerse".

turkey cookies...

While picking Molly up from school today, she announced that tomorrow they were asked to bring snack to school. Immediately, I thought of the turkey cookies featured on The Crafty Crow. I ended up using chocolate chips for the eyes instead of m&m's (to remove any nut allergy threat). I think they turned out cute...

Molly can't wait to bring them to school and wants to make more for Thanksgiving!

autumn tree...

Matt has been learning about trees in science. How they grow, why leaves fall, etc. He is soaking up everything his teachers say and repeats it to us at home (so cute). I love this learning explosion he is having.

After their unit on trees, his class made these adorable autumn trees...

very clever!

elf on the shelf...

Do you have an elf on the shelf? We do!

This little guy was given to my kids, by my parents. I love it! Our elf (whom the kids named Mortimer) sits on a shelf in our home every day and then goes to the North Pole every night to report to Santa on how good/bad the kids are.

The kids have truly figured out how to use this direct link to Santa to their advantages. It all started when the elf was in the living room and the kids were in the family room. Matt came flying into the living room crying "did you see that Mortimer? Did you? Molly squeezed my hand really hard." Matt then called back to his sister "Santa's not happy!" To which Molly came running in "I did not Mortimer and He can't even talk Matt!" Well this fighting went on and on and I couldn't help but smile. Why you ask...

Because they were tattling on each other and whining to a plastic elf and not to me! Yeah Grandma and Grandpa - you rock!!!!!

Kiera did a great job. You can check out her website at

community day...

At the end of each quarter, Molly and Matt's school showcases what they have learned. This Quarter was spent focusing on their communities.

Matt sang VERY loudly in rehearsal. You could hear him singing "Who are the people in your nieghborhood" above everyone else. However, he got on the stage, saw all the people, and (for the first time ever in his whole life) was struck silent.

Molly's class discussed their community projects as well...

So, Molly and I had a girl's night. We went to Friendly's and had their Snowman dessert...

neighbors bearing flowers...

Last night Andrew had choir and I was home with the kids. While he did help me get the Tasmanian Devil into bed before leaving... the house was a total mess, Molly had homework, and general chaos had pretty much taken over. After getting Molly to bed I looked around at the dishes at the sink, legos on the floor, and clothes in the laundry basket - poured myself a glass of wine and sat down for the first time in hours. With that, there was a knock on the door.

It was my neighbor, Amy. I invited her in and spent the next five minutes apologizing for my messy house (why is it I never have surprise guests when my house is clean?). She went on to tell me about all the traveling she has been doing for work and the "swanky" events she has been hosting. I love to hear all about her parties in New York, London, etc. (yes, I am living my travel dreams vicariously through my neighbor). Well last night she hosted an event in New York and she brought back a centerpiece for me! Isn't it gorgeous!!!!

This totally made my day!!!! Hooray, for great neighbors!!!!

window mirror...

I wanted to show off a gift that I received many years ago from my father-in-law. He knew I always wanted a window mirror, but the nice ones were out of our price range at the time. So, when they redid the windows in their house he saved one and made me my very own.

If I am not mistaken, it is their old bathroom window. I just love it!!!

He had 6 pieces of mirror cut to fit, added the shelf at the bottom, and painted it all to match. The glassware that sits on the shelf was in my in-laws front window for years and when they "down-sized" they gave it to us.

My father-in-law is no longer with us, but I still think of him all the time (and how much he would have loved his grandson - who he never got to meet). Everytime I look at the mirror, I can't help but smile thinking that "Papa" made it for me. Gosh - this post sure got mushy!

Matt's first field trip...

So what was more exciting? The field trip to the pet store or the bus ride on a REAL school bus. It was a toss up for Matt. He loved every minute of it!

Getting ready to go...

Miss Della the bus driver...

Matt's first bus ride...

Yay - snakes! (ewww....)

A wizard! (as Matt would say)

All in all a successful field trip. I was very proud of Matt listening so well to his teachers.

The very best moment of the day for me was right after I arrived in the classroom. I snuck into the back of the room as to not interrupt circle time, but Matt saw me anyways. Matt's hand shot up in the air and when his teacher called on him he asked if he could give his mommy a hug. I just love that kid!!!!

lordy, lordy, guess who's 40?

My sweet hubby is!

Happy Birthday Sweetie!!!!

His school was decorated for the event. There were 40's everywhere...

On balloons!

On the floor!

Even out side!

Andrew counted out his 40 pennies (and 1 for luck) in morning chapel and all the kids sang to him. Absolutely priceless!!!!!

how to get a kid to sit still in church...

In yet another attempt to figure out how to get Matt to sit still in church, I tried a new approach.

Molly, Matt and I were ready to leave for church a whole hour before we needed to be (Dad has to be at church early for choir rehearsal), we hopped in the car, went to Mickey D's, had a great breakfast and ran around on the playscape for a while.

Believe it or not... it actually worked! Matt sat through the entire service like a trooper. Now what are the odds it will happen again next week?

santa, already...

Believe it or not... the jolly old elf was in the mall today. I thought he didn't show up until Thanksgiving (or at least all the mall decorations were up).

We didn't visit him (just felt too early), but to appease the children... we did let them write letters to Santa at Macy's Christmas mailbox display.

Only 45 days until Christmas!

cutest kid ever...

...that was the subject of the email I got with this picture of Matt attached. It is from the Halloween Hogwarts Event at our church.

I know I am biased, but I really think my kids are cute!!!!

a cozy blanket...

My "ever so crafty" daughter wanted to make a gift for her girlfriend's birthday. The party is a monkey birthday party (because - let's face it, what's not to like about a monkey) and while at JoAnn's we found this make a blanket kit (with monkeys all over it). Molly had received a similar blanket from her Grandma 2 or 3 Christmas's ago that she sleeps with every night because it is so "cozy".

While the one we did was out of a kit, this would be super easy to do just by buying the two pieces of fleece right of the bolt. Anyways, the directions are as follows. Get two pieces of coordinating fleece. Place the fleece on top of each other. Cut 7 inch squares out of the double layers of fleece at each corner. Cut into the fleece at 1" intervals around the entire perimeter...

Then all you do is knot the pieces together... easy, breezy!

Here it is all done (mostly completed by an 8 year old). This was a great project!!!!

work in progress...

Yes, this is still the dollhouse I got for Mother's Day - NOT FINISHED!!! Molly and I are making a renewed effort to get this done by Thanksgiving (she would like to decorate it for Christmas). I have a lot of respect for people who do more than one of these - good grief, every time I think we are almost done - a gazillion more things still need to happen.

This house may not be perfect, but Molly and I are quite proud of it. To see it coming together has been fun - even if the road has been long and bumpy. I totally think that we will have it done by Thanksgiving... I am just not going to guarantee it will be THIS Thanksgiving!
