surprise adventure...

It all started when I got a call this morning that Fedex had lost the payroll for our Boston office. I tried all morning at work (unsuccessfully) to try and get a courier to deliver a new set of payroll checks by 3pm. Well, when that didn't work - I decided to hand deliver the checks myself (I am in CT about 2.5 hours outside of Boston).

I called my husband to let him know and he decided to come with me. The next thing I know we are pulling the kids out of daycare/school and making an "ADVENTURE" out of this outing.

We got to Boston at 3pm., stopped at the Boston office to drop off the paychecks (and were greeted by many happy employees who had cupcakes and ice cream for my kids), and we were off to continue the adventure...

We ran the kids over to the Children's Museum and played until closing. Since it was only an hour until closing and the middle of the week, the place was desserted. We basically had it all to ourselves!

From there we visited with people from our other Boston office just to say hi (and take a bathroom break with the kids)... then it was off to Quincy Market for dinner and shopping! What a BLAST! The kids were great, the weather was perfect, traffic was non-existant. It was a perfect outing!

Honestly, I think it was so much fun because it was so spontaneous. No plans, no expectations, no schedule.

I think that we will need to have an adventure again soon (but I promise not to let the control freak inside of me plan it - LOL). I wonder where and when it will be.

What was your last spontaneous adventure?

the potential grass has arrived...

Do you see it? It has FINALLY arrived! Our potential grass....

Dearest husband (and his friend Rob) has spent many hours toiling in the backyard spreading topsoil, grass seed, and hay... hubby then religiously watered daily... and then today - IT HAPPENED! We saw grass. My husband (and Rob) ROCKS!!!!!!!!

Thank you Andrew for answering my request to MAKE GRASS HAPPEN!

The quilt is done - Hooray!

It started with a simple enough request....

Mom, can I have a new quilt for my bed? To which I answered - sure, let's go to the store and pick something out. After MANY stores - we realized that my daughter is as picky as I am.

We went to JoAnn's to pick out fabric. Molly kept asking for orange with a little yellow, green, and pink mixed in. I kept telling her - that I didn't think that existed. Boy, was I wrong.

I was afraid that this would be overwhelming, but it really came out nicely...

Yeah, she liked it... she really likes it! I still need to make curtains and some pillow shams - but I am really happy it is done!

April = Bulk Trash Pick-up

My darling husband and his sweet friend Rob have spent the past two Saturdays cleaning out our backyard. It really needed a LOT of help. Now it looks like a dirt farm - but at least its a CLEAN dirt farm.

Look... they DO like each other!

Just when I think that they will hate each other forever, after I have broken up a hundred fights in one morning, after tears from not one - not two - but all three of us... I come around the corner and see this. There is hope!

A Piece of My Youth...

Molly's Second Grade play, "Coming to New Haven", was this week. Molly looked adorable dressed as a little Hungarian girl. I loved that she wore the blouse that my Grandmother brought back from Budapest for me when I was about her age. It was so nice to spend the past couple of weeks discussing family stories and histories.

After the play, we had an International Luncheon where everyone brought family recipes to share with the rest of the class and parents and invited guests and faculty etc., etc., etc. I had everyone email me their recipes, I organized them by dish, and made little recipe books for everyone in the class.

To bind the books, I used the Recycled Notebook idea from Martha Stewart's website. Very easy and (once you have an assembly line going) doesn't take too long.

Happy Earth Day!

Check out Geogreetings - what a nice way to wish someone a Happy Earth Day (or some other silly message).

Getting caught up...

Life has gotten in the way of my fun again.

Here are some things that I have been up to...

Easter Sunday - we needed to bring something for coffee hour at church. I didn't want to bring more candy for the kids... so, we made "carrots" out of crunchy Cheetos, icing decorator bags, and pipe cleaners (they were very cute).

Grandma Jane had a birthday... and I made favors for her party...

We held auditions for the Sound of Music and the cast has been set. I am really looking forward to a fun summer.

Other than that... I have had a horrible case of bronchitis and a stomach flu. It's been a rough couple of weeks around here. We are still awaiting Spring's arrival - let me know if you see it.
