halloween is coming...

It's almost October Time to decorate for Halloween!!!!

Halloween is my favorite holiday. Decorations, trick-or-treating, costumes, pumpkin carving, no stressing over presents, no worrying about how to fit both sides of the family in for dinner... just fun!!!!

I have started decorating for the holiday... here is a haunted house with trick or treaters that Molly and I made for last Halloween. She was so proud of it tonight when I took it out of storage. She and I are discussing adding a neighboring haunted castle with a black cat. Hmmm.... the possibilities are endless!

let's go out for dinner...

Call it mid-week laziness... but we decided we were not in the mood to cook tonight. So we went into our drawer of gift certificates (yes, we have a drawer of gift certificates - my husband IS a teacher and they are very popular, VERY appreciated gifts) and chose a restaurant that I even had a coupon for! Double Joy!!!

After our yummy dinner... I needed to tear the coupon off to give it to the waitress. I did an embarassingly horrible job. You see, I have never been that person who can tear neatly. I always end up ripping it in half or something. Well, my husand said "I am so sure you'll never post about this in your blog". I so can't turn down a dare. Hello, I am the woman who posted a picture of her toilet! So Andrew, here it is... proof of my lousy tearing skills!

sunday in the park...

Today was "Sunday in the Park" at nearby Edgerton Park. I just love this little fair. I love that the rides consist of a big tire swing and zip line for the kids, that the kids climb all over a fire engine, and all the little kid games are designed so everyone wins a oriental trading prize (so that all the kids go home with pockets full of plastic junk to marvel at because - they WON it).

avast me hearties....

Yo ho! Today is International Talk Like a Pirate Day! Here is how we celebrated...

Oh no! It's the dreaded Pirate Molly!!!!

Captain Matt to the rescue...

Pirate Molly has Captain Matt on the ropes...

a-ha... I've got you this time Captain Matt...

I don't think so...

Captain Matt saves the day!!!!

So we didn't do much talking like pirates, but we totally loved pretending to BE pirates.

Because, once again... I do not want to forget.

"Mom, I am so FUSTERATED! I can't get my shoe on."
"Matt, do you mean frustrated."
"Ugghh, that's what I say - FUSTERATED!"

(Matt's comment after asking me the same question 15 times and getting the same answer - which was NO.)

"SILENCE - YOU ARE NOT THE MAN! uh, Mom... have you seen my Daddy?"

(by the way... my husband SWEARS he did not teach him this)

(Matt and Andrew are watching cartoons and a commercial comes on for a remote control car.)

Matt: "Dad, when I say - I want that remote car, you say - but, I thought you wanted the Planet Heroes Space Ship. Okay?"
Andrew; "Okay."
Matt: "Dad, I want that remote car."
Andrew: "But, I thought you wanted the Planet Heroes Space Ship?"
Matt: "I want them both, thanks for asking!"

Me: "Matt, what do you want for breakfast? We have cereal or waffles."
Matt: "I want Macaroni and Cheese."
Me: "That's a lunch food, right now we are having breakfast."
Matt: "I want Macaroni and Cheese, please."
Me: That was really nice asking, but we are having breakfast."
Matt: "Okay, then I'll just have lunch instead."

Matt: (day two of preschool) "Mom, am I FINALLY old enough to go to kindergarten?"

Matt: (day three of preschool - and not wanting to get out of bed) "Mom, I forgot to tell you that the first week I would be a little sick and need to stay home."

What can I say... 3 is a fun age!

it's finally my turn...

That is what Matt said to me this morning when I asked him to stop so I could take his picture before the first day of school. "Sorry Mom I can't. It's FINALLY my turn to go in." (I still made him stop so I could take a quick picture.)

Molly gives her little brother some advice on his big first day!

Outside the school door (where I had to beg to get him to stop so I could take a picture).

Not only did Cookie come with Matt to school... he got his own name tag, so everyone would know who he was!

Being that he was the first kid there... he got a chance to run around a bit and check out his new surroundings.

I thought I would be teary dropping my baby off at pre-school, but I wasn't. He was completely comfortable and after being in the room for 2 minutes, he looked at me and said "Mom, it's time for you to leave now". That boy is something else!

That is not to say I didn't worry about him all day! When my cell phone rang at noontime and the school number was on the caller id - I couldn't get to the phone fast enough. But, there was no emergency... the teacher just wanted to let me know Matt was having a great day and that "he has a rather extensive vocabulary and really loves to use it" (interpretation: your son talks a lot!).

Hooray! Both of my children are in school - and life is great!

the big apple...

My family LOVES the World of Disney store in New York City!!!! Whenever we feel like we are missing Disney World - we hop in the car, take the "quick" ride to Manhattan and visit.

May my kids never be too old to want to stand in line and meet the characters!

Matthew and Andrew do a little pin trading. (The Cast Members thought Matt was so cute - they gave him a new lanyard with 8 pins on it!)

Molly (and a Cast Member from Australia) gets to pick pins off the special kids board. She was so excited - she started and (almost finished) two new pin collections today - the Disney Bears and the Haunted Mansion Hidden Mickeys.

See all the press taking photos? That's because the Wizards of Waverly Place were at the World of Disney. I didn't get a good picture of them (there were too many screaming tweeners)... but, Molly was THRILLED that she got to see REAL television stars.

All in all a good day (even with the torrential downpours on the way home).

a new school...

Today was the big day! Molly started her new school! After a rocky start to the day (the bus never showed), I drove her into school and off she went with a smile. This is a HUGE transition for her (the new school is a bilingual school), but I know she will do just fine.

family resemblances....

Looking through an old scrapbook (1989 - to be exact), I found this great picture of a niece and nephew of mine that are well into their twenties. I couldn't get over how my Matthew looked like my nephew Aidan. They have the same face!
I guess there is no denying they are related!
