passing on traditions...

Molly made her first batch of dough tonight for THE cookies. Her great grandmother's Hungarian fruit filled cookies. She loved the fact that the dough is mixed by hand. (It is really as messy as it looks.) She showed her true inner-Hungarian tonight.

We usually make these cookies with Grandma Doris every year, but due to the incredible amount of snow that is STILL falling - I doubt we will be getting together to finish them.

We have left the dough to chill overnight. I can't wait to see how well she rolls them out tomorrow!

Funny story: Due to the forecast for tremendous amounts of snow, the kids didn't have school today. Instead, we ran around all morning trying to finish Christmas shopping (before the storm hit). So we headed to my parents' hometown and went to their favorite coffee shop to pick up a gift certificate to go with their Christmas presents. As I was laughing with the woman behind the counter talking about how my parents were ALWAYS there - they walked through the door! So much for the surprise! I guess they know what they are getting for Christmas. On the brighter side, we got to sit and have a donut with Grandma and Grandpa!
